The Murchison Falls National Park lies in northwestern Uganda at the upper end of Lake Albert. At its center the waters of the river Nile run to the Murchison Falls, one of East Africa's most spectacular waterfalls. The park was, and has become again, home for a large number of endangered species especially a variety of birds the diversity of which is second to none worldwide.

As a result of this area being a wildlife preserve the number of game that was drastically reduced after the civil war has recovered significantly and the park has become again one of Uganda's major tourist attractions. The potential is, however, by far not yet fully realized.

Efforts are being made together with the Uganda Wildlife Authority to develop efficient management to run the park and to build up an effective infrastructure.

The surveillance of gamestock and effective programs against poachers are still challenges. An effective program against abuse begins with employment  and ongoing training of parkrangers.

A central feature has been to gain the trust and cooperation of the villagers residing along the border of the park. Their understanding of the importance of conserving local animals and plants becomes easier as more money comes out of new jobs and out of tourist's pockets.
